The government has legally commited itself to reaching environmental targets and therefore there is a range of Renewable Energy Funding like Solar Panels Grants and options available for different levels of projects.
Enhanced Capital Allowances
The Carbon Trust manages the Energy Technology List (ETL) and promotion of the ECA scheme on behalf of the Government. It provides a straighforward way for a business to invest in energy-saving plant or machinery on the ETL by providing 100% first year tax relief on their qualifying capital expenditure. This allows the business to write off the whole equipment cost against taxable profits in the year of purchase which can provide a cash flow boost.
Other benefits can include:
- Reduced running costs through greater efficiency
- Reduced payback periods
- Helps a business meet CAA targets and reduce climate charge levy
- Helps a business delivering corporate and social responsibility (CSR)
Community Sustainable Energy Programme
The CSEP is an open grants program run by BRE on behalf on the the Big Lottery Fund. It aims to provide funding to community-based organisations, offering up to 50% of the cost of a heat pump or solar panel renewable installation. Suitable applicants include churches, community centres, schools, trusts and village halls.
In conjunction with LCBP2 it is possible to gain upto 100% funding of the cost of a qualifying project.
VAT Concessions
A reduced rate of 5% applies to energy saving installations for residential accomodation or for solely charitable purposes. This applies to any work necessary to complete installation.
The Carbon Trust
For small or medium enterprises (SMEs) £3,000 to £500,000 is now available at 0% interest for energy saving equipment. This allows a company to reduce its bills and pay off the loan with the savings made. In addition larger companies who do not fall under the Carbon Reduction Commitment but with an annual electricity bill of less than £500,000 can also now apply. The interest free loan is straighforward to apply for, is unsecured and can be payed back over a 4 year period.
Council Grants
Some county and district councils run grant programmes to encourage the installation of renewable energy systems. Please contact us for the latest information regarding any grant funding in your area.
