A 9.9kWp Solar PV system has been installed on a south-facing barn roof. The system consists of forty-five Sharp 220Wp modules, three SMA Sunny Boy inverters and requires an area of 73.89m². The system qualifies for the >4-10kW Feed-in Tariff rate of 37.8 p/kWh.
Structural calculations were necessary to ensure the barn could withstand the additional weight of the modules and then work began on fixing the mounting system to the barn structure. This involved installing 151.81 metres of aluminium mounting rail.
The existing electrical installation included some old switch gear and it was necessary to install newer, updated equipment. As the barn and the location of the incoming mains is not in the same location a new supply was taken over a run of 36 metres, sized so that minimal losses occured.
